Lincoln School is very proud of two main
programs that have the community involved in the education of the students
of Lincoln School. The programs are "Adopt A Classroom" and the "Grandma
Reader Program".
Adopt
A Classroom is a program where each classroom at Lincoln School is "adopted"
by a local business. The business visits the classroom approximately
once a month to read a book to the class and/or talk about the various
jobs available at the business. This program shows the
students that
the skills they are learning now are also being used by the adults that
visit the class, about numerous careers available to them, and about the
various businesses in our community. The students often take a field trip
to their adopted business at some time during the school year.
The Grandma Reader
program consists of a number of retired "grandmas", and even some "grandpas",
who volunteer their time to read with a student for 30 minutes once a week.
The readers read to the same student throughout the school year. In addition
to a Christmas party, the Grandma Readers end the year with an ice cream
party where all the readers and their "child" get together at Lincoln for
one big celebration!
