MACOMB JR-SR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY
STUDENT USE
PROCEDURES
Library Rules & Procedures
In order to make the library accessible to as many students
as possible, certain procedures regarding its use are
necessary.
AVAILABILITY: 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
CLASS PERIODS --
Classroom teachers frequently bring their entire class or portions of it to the
library for work. These visits are pre-arranged and may last the full period
or part of it. When possible only one class per period will be scheduled, but
often scheduling limitations will make it necessary for two classes to use the
library at the same time.
FREE TIME -- Students may come to the
library without a pass before their first hour class and after school during
regular library hours.
TEACHER'S PASS -- Teachers may send students to the library any period of
the day with an individual pass issued for a specific library-related purpose, such as
project research and completing class assignments. The pass must state the
purpose of the student's visit.
STUDY HALL PASS -- Each
study hall teacher is allowed to send a maximum of seven students per period
to the library. Individual students are allowed a maximum of two visits from a
study hall per week in addition to Teacher Passes for specific library-related
purposes. Those students with multiple study halls are allowed two
visits per week from each of their study hall periods in addition to Teacher
Passes for specific library-related purposes. Students from study
halls will be listed on a joint study hall pass which includes their reason for
the use of the library and are to come in a group at the same time.
CONDUCT -- Students are to come to the library prepared to make use
of library materials and technology. They should be engaged in the activity
stated on their pass or in recreational reading. They will be expected to work
quietly and with respect for other people and their property. Except for before
and after class hours, students are to present a pass at the library desk upon entering the room.
Students without a stated purpose or who are engaged in an activity other than
that purpose will be returned to their classroom or study hall. Students are
allowed to talk quietly as long as it is in the context of a specific project
and not merely a social engagement. Students will not routinely be allowed to
leave the library to visit their locker or the restroom. Food, candy or drinks
are not allowed in the library. Students are not to play cards or computer games
while in the library. The library tables are intended for no more than four
occupants. Students on individual passes are to work alone on their assignment
and students on study hall passes are not to intermingle or interfere with
classes that are using the library.
When a student's behavior
becomes inappropriate, he/she will be sent back to class or study hall and in
addition:
FIRST WARNING: 1 week suspension from the
library
SECOND WARNING: 3 week suspension from the
library
THIRD WARNING: 6 week suspension from the
library
A copy of his/her behavior will be sent to the teacher.
While serving a suspension from the library during his/her study hall(s), the
student may use the library in one of the other ways listed above.
With
the many enhancements in the learning resource center and the great demands on
its space and time, our goal is to maintain a climate conducive to students'
growth in factual knowledge, technological knowledge, reading skills, and
library appreciation while providing for its widest possible use.
