Tex
By
S.E. Hinton
How are you doing? I am fine. I have been reading a very interesting
book. The renowned author S. E. Hinton wrote it. The book I am reading is called
Tex. I highly recommend this book. I know you too would enjoy it if you
read it. If you are bored on a rainy day, you should pick up this classic tale,
and let your troubles drift away. It is about a 15-year-old-boy named Texas. Tex
has two loves in life his horse Negrito and his best friend Johnny’s sister,
Jamie. Johnny and Jamie hang out with Tex all the time. When its Jamie and Tex
alone they talk about life and future plans. When its just Johnny and Tex you
know there will be trouble somewhere around. Tex is a good kid on the inside but
he always seems to manage to get into trouble. Ever since Pop left for the rodeo
Tex’s life has been falling apart. He and his older brother Mason live in a
small town in Oklahoma. Mase is the star of the basketball team and the most
popular guy in the school. Tex and Mase hardly have enough money to survive. One
day while Tex is still at school, Mason is forced to sell the horses because
there is no money left for them to live on. Tex comes home and can’t believe
Mase would do such a thing. He then attacks Mason enraged with hate. Mason beats
him up really bad. Tex then goes to find the horses. Mason convinces Tex to come
back home. Life is normal again for a while. After a while something is wrong
with Mason. He has to go into the city for a check up and they find out he has
an ulcer. It’s from being so stressed out all the time. Tex drives on the way
back form the hospital. After a while of driving back home they see a hitch
hiker and being kind they decide to pick him up. He asks where they are going
and they tell him. He then pulls out a gun and says why don’t you keep driving
to the state line. A cop starts to follow them and finally Tex can’t take it
anymore. He drives off the road into a ditch. After the truck stops the hitch
hiker rolls out and starts shooting at the cops. He is then shot and killed. Tex
and Mase’s story is shown throughout the sstate. Then things go back to
normal. Then Lem comes and tells them about his new baby. Lem used to be
Mases’s best friend until Mase became so popular. Lem moved to the city to
take care of his wife. He didn’t really come around much anymore. Then Pop
finally comes home. Everything is going great. Until the day Johnny and Tex
decide to put popping caps on all the typewriter keys. They start laughing
hysterically before anything happens and then from the next room you hear the
pops. Pops has to come in after work and this is when Mase releases the news
that Pop is not Tex’s father. Tex is in shock after hearing this. He runs out
of the school and Lem pulls up beside him and says get in. Tex goes on a job
with Lem. They get to the apartment and a guy lets them in and locks the door
behind them. Him and Lem start to talk and start arguing. Tex says he’s
leaving and the guy starts yelling nark. He starts running around the room
opening cabinets and drawers. Finally as Tex is opening the door the guy pulls
out a gun. Tex is so fed up with everybody at this point he runs and slams the
guy to the ground. The guy barely got off a shot. Tex picks up the gun and
points it at the guy. Tex is about to pull the trigger. Lem begs him not to. Tex
says lets go and they leave. Tex has been shot. Lem then freaks out about taking
Tex to the hospital because of cops.
Then Lem drops him off in front of a super market. Tex ties to call home but
forgets his telephone number. Jamie answers and she asks whats wrong and he says
I’ve been shot. Cole then gets on and asks where he is and says get off the
phone. Soon an ambulance arrives and Tex is taken to the hospital. Tex is put in
to critical condition. Mase beats up Lem. Mase cries while Tex is asleep. The
doctor comes out with the good news Tex will be fine. Everything returns to
normal. The book then ends it is a great book and I highly recommend it.
